The Spiritans Charism

Charism is a special gift of the Holy Spirit from God to the Church and to humans inspired by Christian faith. This God’s gift gather individuals (the Spiritans) to answer His command with willingness to serve the poorest of the poor all over the world. We are inspired to make Christ present to the poor of the world.

Our Charism is clearly stated by “SPIRITAN RULE OF LIFE 3rd Edition” Chapter 1 (mission 4 “Our Mission in the Church.)

“The evangelisation of the “poor” (cf. Lk 4:17) is our purpose (cf. N.D. XIII, 170). Therefore we go especially to peoples, groups and individuals who have not yet heard the message of the Gospel or who have scarcely heard it, to those whose needs are the greatest, and to the oppressed (cd. N.D. II, 241). We also willingly accept tasks for which the Church has difficulty in finding workers.

Spiritans are engaged in many diverse ministries such as parish work, chaplaincies, health care, Prison ministry, Disaster response, service to the refugees and migrants, education of the poorest, dialogue with Muslims, other religions and cultures, and different kinds of supports among every poor people who are suffering in pain in this world. We make ourselves “the advocates, the supporters and the defenders of the weak and the little ones against all who oppress them” (Rule of 1849; N.D.X, 517).

Thus, our founder Claude Francois Poullart Des Places gave up everything just to help the poor as this is a symbol of solidarity and divine charity. We are Witnessing God’s word to the poor, thus inspired by the Holy Spirit, our mind and heart place is placed the hands of “Divine Providence”.

In the Spirit of our calling, we accept every appointments in the spirit of solidarity whatever may be the work involve to preach the news in God’s kingdom, justice, and peace.0040_PHILIPPINES. Mactan-Cebu. Visite du quartier du Spiritan Catholic Center Foundation

In the Philippines, the Spiritans responded to the poorest of the poor in the Diocese of Iligan (Mindanao) since 1997 by serving on the mountainous and difficult areas of the Diocese. We work with the Lumads, the Higaonons, the muslim Maranaos and the abandoned tribes of Mindanao. We have been also involved with the Subanens of Zambonga del sur and the Badjaos around the diocese of Iligan.

We are happy as we attend to more than 300 poor children in mountains of Mindanao and in the slums of Cebu city. (Barangay T. Padilla). We shall continue to walk in the way that the Holy Spirit leads us for the Poor. Become part of our Mission today.
